Ontario passes bill to remove bike lanes in Toronto and restrict new ones without city approval.
Ontario's government has passed Bill 212, allowing the province to remove existing bike lanes on Bloor Street, Yonge Street, and University Avenue in Toronto, and requiring municipal approval for new bike lanes that remove vehicle lanes. The bill, criticized by cycling advocates and Indigenous groups, also limits legal action against the government for injuries related to bike lane removal, and fast-tracks construction of Highway 413. The bill awaits royal assent to become law.
