Nine GPS-collared raccoons, raised at a BC SPCA center, are released for a survival study.

Nine orphaned raccoons raised at the BC SPCA's wild animal rehabilitation centre have been released in the capital region, equipped with GPS/radio collars. A six-month monitoring project by Royal Roads University aims to study their survival rates, causes of mortality, and movements post-release. The data will help refine rehabilitation practices to boost the survival of juvenile raccoons. The collars are designed to fall off after six months to avoid hindering the raccoons' growth.
