Fraudsters are targeting individuals with fake tax refund offers or demands for payments to get personal and banking details. HMRC reported a 16.7% increase in scam referrals, totaling 144,298 between November 2023 and October 2024. HMRC advises not to provide personal information via text or email and to check their website for advice if contacted by suspected scammers.
