Taiwan reports detection of a Chinese surveillance balloon, viewed as harassment by Taiwan.

Taiwan's defense ministry reported the detection of a Chinese balloon over the sea north of the island on Monday, marking the first such incident since April. Taiwan views this as part of a pattern of harassment by China, which claims sovereignty over Taiwan. The balloon was detected 60 nautical miles north of Keelung port, flying at 33,000 feet, before vanishing two hours later. China's defense ministry has not commented, previously stating the balloons are for meteorological purposes.
