Saint Louis Zoo celebrates first elephant birth via artificial insemination, welcoming calf Jet.

The Saint Louis Zoo welcomed a male Asian elephant calf named Jet on November 23, 2024. The birth marks the zoo's first success with artificial insemination; Jet's father, Jake, is from the Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance. The 250-350 pound newborn is bonding with his 17-year-old mother, Jade, who is part of a four-generation family at the zoo. The birth supports efforts to preserve the endangered Asian elephant species.
