Heavy rains in La Paz, Bolivia, caused a landslide that destroyed about two dozen homes, flooded 40 more, and left a young girl missing. Mayor Iván Arias blamed poor construction of unauthorized houses on the hillside for exacerbating the disaster. President Luis Arce visited the site, offering aid and promising to investigate illegal construction. La Paz, prone to floods and landslides due to its valley location, is entering its rainy season after a severe drought.
