Violence breaks out in India over mosque survey, seen as Hindu temple site.

In Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, violence erupted when a mob pelted stones at officials conducting a court-ordered survey of a mosque, claimed to be built on an ancient Hindu temple site. Police used tear gas to control the situation, detaining ten people and launching a probe. Former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav accused the BJP of orchestrating the violence to divert attention from alleged electoral malpractices. The survey is part of a legal process following a petition, with the next hearing scheduled for January 29.
