Toyota is developing hydrogen internal combustion engine (ICE) technology as part of its "multi-pathway" strategy for decarbonization, alongside hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles. While no production models are available yet, Toyota aims to make significant strides with this technology by 2035-2040. The company has tested hydrogen ICEs in motorsport and prototypes like the Hydrogen HiAce in Australia.
