A house fire broke out at 3:40 AM on November 23 in Mattoon, Illinois, at 2809 Shelby Ave. Flames came through the roof, and all occupants escaped safely, but a dog died inside. The Mattoon Fire Department extinguished the fire with help from local agencies. The house and its contents were destroyed, and the family of four is being assisted by the American Red Cross. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
