Former U.S. Senator Fred Harris, known for his advocacy for civil and Native American rights, has died at 94. Harris served as an Oklahoma Senator from 1964 to 1972 and later as a professor at the University of New Mexico. He was instrumental in returning Blue Lake to Taos Pueblo and established a congressional internship program at UNM. Harris was also recognized for his work in civil rights and tribal sovereignty.
