Salmon numbers plummet in Canadian hatchery; volunteers assist in egg stripping to boost populations.
The Little Campbell River Hatchery in South Surrey, Canada, is seeing a significant drop in spawning salmon. This year, only 669 coho and 335 chinook salmon have been counted, far fewer than previous years. Hatchery manager Roger McRurie reports these declines, and volunteers are helping by stripping eggs from female coho salmon to boost numbers.
