Canada confirms first case of more transmissible clade I mpox, linked to African outbreak.
Canada has confirmed its first case of clade I mpox in a traveler from Manitoba, linked to an ongoing outbreak in central and eastern Africa. The individual sought medical care after returning and is now isolating. Clade I is more transmissible and causes more severe disease than clade II, which has been circulating in Canada since 2022. The risk to the general population remains low, and contact tracing is underway.
