A Calgary oil waste firm was fined over $42,000 after an explosion injured two workers.

A Calgary-based oil waste company, Secure Energy Services, was fined over $42,000 after an explosion at one of its British Columbia facilities injured two workers. The explosion occurred during welding work above a shaker tank containing a flammable substance. WorkSafeBC found the company had breached nine worker safety regulations. A contractor, Key Energy Ltd., was also fined $6,000 for inadequate safety assessments. Secure Energy had moved into compliance by the time of follow-up inspections.
