An 18-year-old asylum seeker from South Sudan skipped his murder trial for a 27-year-old's death.

An 18-year-old asylum seeker from South Sudan, Deng Chol Majek, failed to appear at his first court hearing for the murder of 27-year-old Rhiannon Skye Whyte, who died after being stabbed at Bescot Stadium station in Walsall. Initially charged with attempted murder, Majek's charges were upgraded after Whyte's death. Despite not speaking with his lawyer, the judge will proceed assuming he contests the charges. The trial is expected in April 2025.
