Volney Spalding, 64, died from burns after trying to put out an outdoor fire at his Acton home.

Volney Spalding, a 64-year-old Acton resident, died after suffering severe burns while trying to extinguish an outdoor fire at his home on Ice Road. The fire, which caused damage to nearby woods and a shed, began outside his property on Sunday. Spalding was airlifted to Maine Medical Center in Portland but later passed away. The Maine Forest Service and State Fire Marshal's Office are investigating the cause of the fire, and the medical examiner's office will determine the cause and manner of Spalding's death.
