Nigerian Supreme Court rules national lottery law unconstitutional, giving states control.

The Nigerian Supreme Court has declared the 2005 National Lottery Act unconstitutional, ruling that the National Assembly did not have the authority to legislate on lotteries and games of chance. This power belongs to state Houses of Assembly. Consequently, the Act will no longer be enforced in all states except the Federal Capital Territory. The decision follows a lawsuit filed by Lagos and other states in 2008.
