Illinois approves bill to phase out subminimum wage for workers with disabilities by 2029.

Illinois legislators have approved the "Dignity in Pay Act," which phases out subminimum wage for workers with disabilities. If signed by Governor JB Pritzker, the bill would prohibit businesses from paying less than minimum wage to disabled workers, ending the 14(c) exemption. The act includes a transition grant program to support organizations and a task force to oversee the process, aiming to ensure fair wages by 2029. Illinois would become the 19th state to end 14(c) participation.
