Tibetan environmentalist Karma Samdrup was released after serving a 15-year prison sentence, during which he faced torture and false charges of tomb excavation and cultural relic theft. Samdrup, along with his brothers, founded an award-winning environmental group and was arrested after his brothers were detained for exposing wildlife poaching. Despite his release, Samdrup now faces five years of restricted civil liberties.
