Three police officers and four drug cartel members were killed, with five more officers wounded, in shootouts along highways around San Fernando, Tamaulipas, Mexico. The violence involved cartel gunmen setting up roadblocks and attacking police patrols. San Fernando, part of the Tamaulipas region, has long been controlled by the Gulf and Zetas cartels.
