Rhode Island launches RISavers, a public retirement plan for private-sector workers starting in 2025.

Rhode Island has launched RISavers, a public retirement savings program for private-sector workers without workplace retirement plans. The program, which starts in 2025, automatically enrolls eligible workers in Roth IRAs with the option to opt-out. It aims to help about 170,000 Rhode Island workers lacking retirement benefits. Businesses with five or more employees must offer the program, with deadlines based on size. RISavers partners with Connecticut to reduce costs, and it does not require employer contributions or additional taxpayer funding.
