New Zealand proposes new youth crime bill with military academy option for serious young offenders.
New Zealand's parliament introduced the Oranga Tamariki (Responding to Serious Youth Offending) Bill, aiming to address rising youth crime.
The bill proposes a Young Serious Offender (YSO) declaration for 14-17 year-olds who commit at least two serious offenses, giving more power to the Youth Court and police.
It also includes a Military-Style Academy order, placing offenders in a Youth Justice Residence for 3 to 12 months.
The Social Services and Community Committee will review the bill.
