Myanmar's objections to expanding ASEAN's defense cooperation partners risk undermining the organization's unity and credibility, according to Singapore's Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen. Speaking at the ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting in Laos, Hen warned that Myanmar's sole opposition to certain issues could harm ASEAN's progress and called on Myanmar not to use the bloc for retaliatory politics. The impasse may delay decisions until 2025 when Malaysia chairs ASEAN.
