Farmers in northwest China's Xinjiang region are cultivating pearls and other seafood like salmon and lobsters in a unique inland aquaculture project. Despite the region's dry climate, Xinjiang's aquatic industry has grown, producing 184,000 tonnes of seafood in 2023, valued at 3.86 billion yuan, and providing jobs for 13,600 people.
