UnitedHealth Group, the largest U.S. health insurer, has been using algorithms to limit mental health coverage, targeting patients receiving more than 30 therapy sessions in eight months. This practice, which could save the company up to $52 million, has been deemed illegal in three states. However, due to the fragmented regulatory system, the company can relocate its practices to avoid scrutiny in other states.
