People from Glasgow, Belfast, and northeast England outperform Londoners in spotting fake accents, study finds.

A new study from Cambridge University shows that people from Glasgow, Belfast, and the northeast of England are better at detecting fake accents compared to those from London and Essex. Participants from Scotland, the northeast of England, Ireland, and Northern Ireland correctly identified fake accents 65% to 85% of the time, while those from southern areas had a success rate of 50% to 75%. Researchers suggest this ability is linked to cultural homogeneity and historical regional tensions.
