Oklahoma group pushes for open primaries, aiming to gather enough signatures by 2026 to put it to vote.

Oklahoma United, a bipartisan group, has launched an initiative to replace the state's closed primary system with an open one, known as State Question 835. If passed, all registered voters can vote in any primary, regardless of party affiliation. The group aims to collect 172,993 signatures by November 2026 to put this on the ballot. Proponents argue this could increase voter turnout and reduce polarization, but Lt. Gov. Matt Pinnell opposes it, fearing it could weaken Republican influence.
