Georgia's first national park proposal advances in Senate, protecting ancient mounds near Macon.

The Ocmulgee Mounds Park and Preserve Establishment Act has advanced out of the U.S. Senate Committee, bringing Georgia closer to having its first national park. The proposed park near Macon contains over 17,000 years of historical artifacts and aims to boost the local economy while preserving natural and cultural resources. Sponsors, including Sen. Jon Ossoff, seek to pass the bill during the current lame-duck session of Congress.
