Despite rain, Perth's cricket pitch curator aims for a fair, "rock hard" surface for the India-Australia Test.

Isaac McDonald, the head curator at Perth's WACA, is preparing the pitch for the first Test between India and Australia despite disruptions from unusual rain. The rain has made it hard to achieve the traditional "baking" effect, but McDonald aims for a "rock hard" surface with significant grass cover, around 8-10mm, to ensure good pace and bounce. He expects the pitch to retain some moisture, potentially reducing wear over the five days, and believes it will be a fair contest for both teams.
