Argentina plans to privatize part of the Paraguay-Paraná waterway to modernize and boost trade.

The Argentine government plans to privatize its part of the Paraguay-Parana waterway through a 30-year concession. This 3,400 km river route is vital for connecting inland regions of Paraguay, Bolivia, and southern Brazil to the sea. Argentina relies on it for about 80% of its foreign trade, including exports of soybeans, corn, and wheat. The privatization will involve modernizing the waterway with new tracking systems and measures to combat drug trafficking.
