Alberta's new program sees 33 nurse practitioners begin providing rural primary care, aiming to help 51,000 residents.

Alberta's Nurse Practitioner Primary Care Program, launched in April, has seen 33 out of 56 approved nurse practitioners (NPs) begin providing primary care to rural communities, with another 23 set to join. The program aims to increase access to primary care for around 51,000 Albertans, addressing a shortage where between 700,000 and 800,000 residents lack a primary care provider. NPs must manage at least 900 patients and offer after-hours care.
