The U.S. commercial fishing industry saw a decline in 2022, with a 2.6% drop in catch volume to 8.4 billion pounds and an 11% decrease in value to $5.9 billion. Per capita seafood consumption also fell by 3% to 19.8 pounds, following a high supply year in 2021. Despite the decrease, traditional species like salmon and lobster remained popular, and the industry's performance is now similar to pre-pandemic levels.
