India to take action against rising steel imports, especially from China and Vietnam, to protect domestic industry.

India's Steel Minister, H D Kumaraswamy, announced steps to tackle the surge in steel imports, which have risen to 8.32 million tonnes in the fiscal year 2024, mainly from China and Vietnam. The Indian Steel Association has urged the government to impose a temporary tax on imports from China, Japan, and South Korea, citing a 68-91% drop in margins for domestic steelmakers. China's exports are expected to reach their highest in eight years at over 100 million tonnes in 2024, impacting India's domestic steel industry.
