India seeks to lower taxes on EVs and charging infrastructure to boost electric vehicle sales.

Indian officials and industry experts are calling for a reduction in the 18% Goods and Services Tax (GST) on batteries and electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure to 5%, to make EVs more affordable. Tarun Kapoor, an advisor to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Sulajja Firodia Motwani, CEO of Kinetic Green Energy and Power Solutions, both emphasized the need for tax adjustments and broader policy support to boost EV adoption. The government aims for 30% EV sales by 2030 and is also considering the complete transition to electric two-wheelers.
