India fines Meta $25M for WhatsApp's data sharing, orders changes in user data policies.

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has fined Meta Platforms, the parent company of WhatsApp, over $25 million for violating antitrust laws through WhatsApp's 2021 privacy policy. The CCI ordered WhatsApp to stop sharing user data with other Meta companies for advertising purposes for five years and to provide users with clear opt-out options for non-service-related data sharing.
