URI staff member Maureen McDermott, hit by a car, died on campus after a long career advising student groups.

Maureen McDermott, a longtime University of Rhode Island (URI) staff member and director of student involvement, passed away on November 17 after being hit by a car on campus on November 6. McDermott, who worked at URI for over 40 years, was an advisor to hundreds of student organizations. The university is offering counseling services to students and staff in response to the tragedy.
