The remains of World War II airman 2nd Lt. Thomas V. Kelly Jr., who went missing in 1944, have been identified over 80 years later. Kelly, part of a B-24 bomber crew shot down over Papua New Guinea, was recovered from the deepest underwater MIA recovery by the U.S. The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency and Project Recover, using modern technology, located the wreckage in 2017, providing closure to Kelly's family.
