New Zealand plans major meeting to combat online scams after citizens lost nearly $200m last year.

New Zealand's Commerce and Consumer Affairs Minister, Andrew Bayly, announced plans for a major meeting to tackle online financial scams after data showed Kiwis lost nearly $200m to scammers last year. The initiative includes better information sharing, industry-led solutions, and coordination with Australia and Singapore. Bayly considers penalties similar to Australia's $50m for non-compliance with anti-scam codes. Netsafe warns that AI is enabling more realistic scams, pushing for a national Anti-Scam Centre.
