A diamond necklace potentially linked to Marie Antoinette sells for $4.8 million at auction.

A historic diamond necklace, potentially linked to Marie Antoinette, sold for $4.8 million at Sotheby's auction in Geneva. The necklace, with about 500 diamonds, exceeded its pre-sale estimate. It was last owned by the Anglesey family and was previously part of an Asian collection for 50 years. The piece is one of the most intact Georgian jewels in private hands and may have ties to the "Affair of the Necklace," a scandal that damaged Marie Antoinette's reputation and contributed to the French Revolution.
