Despite closures, Minnesota's media landscape adapts with growth in nonprofit journalism.

The University of Minnesota's Minnesota Journalism Center report shows that despite challenges like the closure of over 12% of local news outlets since 2018, Minnesota’s media landscape remains resilient. Nonprofit online publications, which now make up over one-in-five new outlets, are growing and focusing on underserved communities. Meanwhile, traditional commercial news models face difficulties, but there is a significant philanthropic push to fund local journalism.
