Australians in poor areas skip healthcare due to costs, with over 11% missing medications and 27% delaying dental care.

Data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics reveals that Australians in socio-economically disadvantaged areas are facing significant barriers to healthcare due to costs. Over 11% delayed or skipped prescription medication, and nearly 27% postponed dental visits due to expenses, more than twice the rate in less disadvantaged areas. Only 35% of those in the most disadvantaged areas have private health insurance, compared to 79% in the least disadvantaged areas. Despite these challenges, access to coordinated care is more common in disadvantaged areas.
