New Zealand landmarks go purple for World Prematurity Day to support over 5,000 premature babies born yearly.

On World Prematurity Day, over 60 landmarks in New Zealand will light up purple to raise awareness for the 5,000 premature or critically ill babies born each year. The Little Miracles Trust, founded in 1986, organizes the event and supports these families through donations, providing essential aid in neonatal units and beyond. New Zealand's preterm birth rate has risen from 7.4% in 2009 to 7.9% in 2021.
