India offers financial aid to soybean and cotton farmers, raising import duties on edible oils.

The Union Agriculture Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, announced new financial support for Indian soybean and cotton farmers, including an additional Rs 5,000 per hectare and increased import duties on edible oils to 27.5%. The measures aim to boost local purchases and ensure fair prices for farmers, especially ahead of Diwali. The government will also compensate farmers for price differences and cover transportation costs.
