Eight out of India's top ten companies lost a combined ₹1.65 lakh crore in market value during a holiday-shortened week. HDFC Bank and State Bank of India saw the biggest drops, with HDFC Bank losing ₹46,729.51 crore and SBI losing ₹34,984.51 crore. The Sensex fell 2.39%. The declines were due to rising inflation concerns and disappointing corporate earnings. Infosys and Tata Consultancy Services were the only gainers.
