Despite being found 65% liable in a civil case and awarded €39,000 in damages to the victim, Fine Gael leaders, including Taoiseach Simon Harris and Justice Minister Helen McEntee, are continuing to support Senator John McGahon for the upcoming election. McGahon was acquitted in a criminal trial, where he claimed self-defense. The incident involved a 2018 assault on Breen White outside a pub in Dundalk.
