Congress party in Kozhikode calls for strike against police and CPI(M) actions, causing tensions and closures.

On November 17, 2024, the Congress party in Kozhikode, India, called for a hartal, or general strike, protesting alleged police inaction and undemocratic methods by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) during a bank election. The strike led to tensions, including shop closures and altercations with police and bus crews. Traders, however, protested against the hartal, arguing it harms their livelihoods and that other forms of protest should be used.
