Climate change, expanding mosquito habitats, is linked to a significant surge in global dengue cases.

US researchers found that climate change is responsible for nearly a fifth of the record number of dengue cases worldwide this year. Rising temperatures are enabling mosquitoes to spread to new areas, increasing dengue transmission. Ideal temperatures for dengue spread are between 20-29 degrees Celsius, and areas in Peru, Mexico, Bolivia, and Brazil may see a 200% increase in cases within 25 years. The study estimates that 257 million people could face doubled dengue rates due to global heating.
