Canadian astronaut Jenni Gibbons, selected in 2016, is backup for the Artemis II moon mission.

Jenni Gibbons, the third Canadian woman astronaut, was selected by the Canadian Space Agency in 2016 from nearly 3,800 applicants and is now backup for the Artemis II moon mission. Inspired by Roberta Bondar's mission as a child, Gibbons pursued a PhD in combustion and became a Cambridge professor before joining the CSA. Her training included flying planes, underwater spacewalks, and geology simulations. Gibbons emphasizes space exploration's role in understanding Earth and the universe.
