Zoo Atlanta celebrates the birth of a western lowland gorilla, a critically endangered species, to mother Kambera.

Zoo Atlanta welcomed a new western lowland gorilla baby, the 26th born at the zoo, to mother Kambera and father Willie B. Jr. The critically endangered species faces threats like poaching and habitat loss. Kambera, who previously rejected an infant, is now showing positive maternal behaviors like holding her new baby closely. Zoo staff are cautiously optimistic about the infant's health and Kambera's ability to care for it.
