Newark Airport gets $1.184B approval for new AirTrain, set to replace old monorail by 2030.

The Port Authority has approved a $1.184 billion contract to build a new AirTrain system at Newark Airport, replacing the outdated 1996 monorail. The new system, featuring five-car trains, will include a 2.5-mile elevated rail and three new stations. Construction begins in 2025, with service starting in 2030. The project's total cost has risen to $3.5 billion, due to a shift in funding from a canceled PATH extension project.
