Lincoln Children's Zoo welcomes a male giraffe calf, part of efforts to protect a vulnerable species.

The Lincoln Children's Zoo welcomed a male giraffe calf on November 3. The 6-foot-tall, 130-pound calf is the second for mother Allie and third for father Joey. The calf, now visible to the public in the indoor giraffe barn, is part of a species listed as vulnerable by the IUCN Red List. As part of the Species Survival Plan Program, the calf will likely be transferred to another zoo in the next year or two.
